Stuart Kreisler, the president and chief executive of Ralph Lauren Womenswear Inc., will leave the company in September, it was announced yesterday. He will be succeeded by Edwin Lewis, the executive vice president of the Polo/ Ralph Lauren Corporation.
Ralph Lauren Womenswear, a division of Bidermann Industries USA, holds the license to manufacture, market and sell all Ralph Lauren women’s apparel in the United States. Mr. Lauren designs the apparel.
Mr. Kreisler obtained the first license to make Ralph Lauren designed women’s apparel in 1971. His company, the Kreisler Group, had sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 1979 when it was acquired by Bidermann. The revenues of the women’s wear division have since increased approximately tenfold, said Kenneth Sitomer, the president and chief executive of Bidermann. Mr. Sitomer estimated the sales volume in 1979 to be $15 million, which would place the volume now at $150 million, or $300 million at retail.
